Did you know that there are more than 10 million kinds of insects in the world? We’re looking for some bug loving kids between the ages of 8 – 12 years old who want to have fun and learn about a few of them. Niabi Zoo, in conjunction with the QC Botanical Center and the University of Illinois Extension Service announces the QC Kids Bug Club! We will meet once a month on Sunday afternoon (usually) at Niabi Zoo with different topics each month.
May 17th, 2009: What is a Bug?!? Learn how to identify bugs, collect and properly display bugs. Make bug nets, killing jars, and a display board.
June 21st, 2009: Bug habitats - How can we save and preserve habitats, and what can we find in bug habitats around the Zoo?
July 18th, 2009: Join us from 7:00 - 9:00 P.M. to see what bugs come out at night!
August 16th, 2009: What is a decomposer and what do they do? Find out what decomposers are doing under logs, on the forest floor, and in the elephant dung!
September 20th, 2009: Monarch Butterflies will take flight at the Botanical Center! - Learn about the butterfly, migration, their life cycle and more!
October 18th, 2009: Chemical Defenses of Bugs and Spiders - How do the creepy drawlies defend themselves with venom and other defenses?
November 15th, 2009: How Insects Survive the Winter - What changes occur and where do bugs go so they can survive the winter?
December 20th, 2009: Extreme Insects? - Bugs in Movies? Find out what it's all about!
