Junior Zoo Keeper


Our 2017 Junior Zoo Keeper program is full. 

Please consider applying for our 2018 class of Junior Zoo Keepers. 

What does it take to be a Junior Zoo Keeper?

- A student between 14 – 17 years of age (must be 14 by the application deadline of April 7)
- Has a passion for animals and nature
- Is willing to receive training, take direction well, be upbeat and share passion for animals with others

What does a Junior Zoo Keeper do?

- Become a Zoo Naturalist to interpret at exhibits with biofacts (skulls, pelts, teeth, claws...)
- Assists with Zoo Camp and education programs
- Makes enrichment for the animals
- Helps with special events

We will host a Junior Zoo Keeper Information Session in March for the 2018 program for interested candidates. 

What do you need to do to be a Junior Zoo Keeper?

- Fill out and submit the application and essay describing "Why would you like to be a Junior Zoo Keeper?" by April 10
- Submit a letter of reference from a teacher or non-family member

The Education Department will contact you to set up an interview. Interviews will be offered in April, 2018.  If an applicant is not able to attend one of these interview dates, an alternate date WILL NOT be offered.

Once accepted into the program, all program participants will be required to attend ALL THREE training sessions during the first 3 weekends in May, 2018

The fee for this program is $50.00 and is due on the first training date. This covers the cost of your JZK shirt and training.

The 2018 Junior Zoo Keeper Application will be available in February, 2018. Applications are due April 7.
