Habitat and Ecology

Firefish are a monogamous species. They will form pairs, not straying far from their burrows that are located on the upper portion of outer reef slopes. They will hover near the bottom of the water, facing the current to feed on zooplankton which includes crustacean larvae and copepods.

Localized Reef Degradation

Although the Firefish is stable in its reef habitat currently, there are serious threats looming. These threats include industrialization, bleaching, destructive fishing habits and water pollution, along with other population pressures.
